One of the most visited attractions at WindRock Park is the Buffalo Mountain Wind Farm which is comprised of 18 windmills.  The windmills are captivating, not to mention the view is breathtaking.  The 15 largest windmills have a 256 foot tower with 139 foot blades and span 395 feet.  Permits for vehicles going to view the windmills are available at the General Store (your ATR registration or WindRock Annual Permit allows access to view the windmills).  For safety reasons, the permit only allows access up to the “US Government Restricted Area” gate.  There is no admittance beyond this gate.

WindRock Nature Trail

Another great addition to your stay during The Appalachian Toyota Round-Up is the WindRock Park Nature Trail.  Take in all the sights and sounds of the mountains by foot or mountain bike.  This is a dedicated 1.9 mile loop. The Nature Trail is the latest addition to Windrock Park. This trail allows guests to take a stroll through the woods and around to the pond and picnic area. It is open to hikers and mountain bikers.Beginning at the fire hydrant along Windrock Park Lane, the Nature Trail goes into the woods and turns left along the contour. The trail follows the lower slopes of the ridge, with a few gradual uphill slopes, continuing down the ridge until it intersects with the gravel road that leads to the bridge and around the pond. The trail continues as a loop around the pond to the picnic area. From the picnic area, the gravel road provides an easy hike back to the campground or heads back up the trail for a more difficult climb.Blue trail signs mark the route! Test your tree knowledge with the interpretive signs along the trail
